Frequently asked questions:
What level are you looking for?
We need to know your current level before the course starts, not your target level!
What is the Level Finder?
The Level Finder helps you quickly find the right, up-to-date course level for your ski or snowboard class. By answering just a few questions, you’ll immediately receive a recommendation for your personal course level.
Is the result binding?
The Level Finder provides the most accurate recommendation possible for the course level that’s right for you. Please answer all questions carefully and honestly, as this information forms the basis for our course planning and group placement. Final placement will be determined by our ski instructors on the first day of the course. If it becomes apparent on-site that a different level is a better fit, we will make an adjustment, provided it is logistically possible and spots are available.
What information do I need to provide?
For the level recommendation, all we need is:
- Sport
- Age
- past experience
- the most challenging slope you can ski safely
Can I also use the Level Finder for children?
Yes. The Level Finder takes different age groups into account and recommends the appropriate course level for children, teens, and adults.
What level should I assign to 3-year-olds?
We offer special Bambini group classes for 3-year-olds. For private lessons, please specify the green level.
Does the Level Finder work for snowboarding, too?
Yes. The Level Finder can be used for both skiing and snowboarding and takes the respective sport into account.
What does the question about the last safe runway mean?
This is about the most difficult slope you can ski with control.
Can I switch to a different level even if I've been recommended for one?
Yes. If it becomes clear during class that a different course level would be a better fit, we’ll move you to the appropriate group.
What do the different levels mean for skiing?
The levels build on one another:
- Green – Beginners and basic skills; do not attempt to brake or turn on your own on blue runs
- Blue I – First Turns and Safe Braking on Blue Slopes
- Blue II – Skiing side-by-side on easy slopes, blue runs. Red runs still using the snowplow technique
- Red – Staying Safe on Red Slopes and Improving Your Technique
- Black – Advanced and expert skiers with a focus on technique and performance
What do the different levels mean for snowboarding?
The levels build on one another:
- Green – Beginners or those with very little prior experience; no independent sliding
- Blue I – Slide safely; do not take turns
- Blue II – Carving turns on blue runs, controlled gliding on red runs
- Red – Safe cornering on blue and red runs
- Black – First attempts at carving, improving technique
Do I have to fill out the Level Finder before every booking?
No. If you already know your current course level, you can book your course directly. The Level Finder is there to help if you’re unsure.
Can I also book a private lesson?
Yes. The Level Finder is suitable for both group classes and private lessons. In private lessons, the instructor will also tailor the lessons to your individual skill level.
Why should I use the Level Finder?
The Level Finder ensures that you’re placed in a group with skiers of similar ability as quickly as possible. This enhances your learning experience, makes it more fun, and ensures greater safety on the slopes. In private lessons, this is important for selecting the right slope for you so you don’t waste any time.
Does the result apply to every ski resort?
Yes. The recommended level is based on your personal skiing ability and does not depend on whether your course takes place on the Hintertux Glacier, at Eggalm, or on the Rastkogel.
